Useful information everyone should read.
adulting:
Hi everyone! So the book came out last week and it’s been kind of a whirlwind since then, although I will say that I have achieved a life-dream, which is to utter the phrase “go look at pictures of baby otters” live on Fox News.
I’m sorting through all the book giveaway entries, and will have some winners announced by Wednesday; in the...

Things I Love Right Now
The last post was too cranky so I had to make up for it with this one. Because not everything is hopeless.
Having a wonderful husband and knowing he’s safe and healthy.
Payment plans.
Being able to do things (like prove my poorness to the student loan people) on the internet.
Daily poetry prompts.
Having a nice new job.
Things I Hate Right Now
Hospital bills.
The Student Aid PIN site.
Security Questions whose answers I have forgotten.
My internet service provider.
Being poor.
I’m just a little cranky right now because I hate the hassle of having to prove I’m poor to the various organizations that demand my money.

So while browsing Goodreads, I noticed a genre called “New Adult.” I had never heard of this before, so I did some searching and learned that it is, in fact, kind of a new thing, label-wise. A specifically labeled genre for books about characters in between adolescence and adulthood.
Currently almost all the books tagged “New Adult” on Goodreads have covers that look like...

Happy Thanksgiving.
I’m thankful for the wonderful husband I married this year. He fills my life with so much love and joy everyday and I’m so glad he’s mine.
I’m thankful for my bestie, who’s always there for me.
I’m thankful for my job, even if it wears me out and owns my life right now. It’s not a bad job at all, and I have plenty of delightful co-worker friends who...
I know a few books like that.

I love those books that you know so well that you don’t even read them all the way through anymore, just open it up anywhere and slip right back into a story you never left.

Save Thanksgiving
On Halloween night, Levi and I decided to walk to Speedway for some candy, since being an adult means if you want candy on Halloween, you have to buy your own. Much to our dismay, the Reese’s, Snickers, and Butterfinger pumpkins had already been replaced…by Reese’s Trees.
I guess we shouldn’t have been too surprised; this sort of thing happens every year. Stores are all...

How Not to Talk to Your Tenants
Do not belittle them by referring to them as students or kids, even if you are renting in a college town, even if most of your tenants happen to be college students. College students are adults too, and should be treated with the same respect.
Do not complain to them about how much money you spend on maintenance that you’re kind of required to perform. (Like buying a new roof, replacing...

Who is training the customers? and other unsolved...
Last night I dreamed that cafe customers kept coming up and asking me if they could leave their empty cups and paper plates on the counter. So my manager and I decided to make a sign to draw people’s attention to the trash can, because I kept having to tell them no and point them to the trash can.
In real life, for resons I do not understand, almost everyone overlooks the trash can in the...

Alright. I usually hate talking politics because I’m a very open-minded person and believe that anyone can believe whatever the hell they want to believe. But as we are drawing closer and closer to this next election, I find myself wondering what people see in Mitt Romney. I am voting for Obama, and it is because his stances are generally my stances. Is he perfect? Hell no,...

Stick Figures
Levi: At least you don't have to deal with people who think all you do is Photoshop.
Me: When I tell people I write, they say, "Oh, I wrote a fan fiction once!"
Levi: At least it's not stick figures.
Me: Fan fiction is the stick figures of writing.

It's that time of year again
Moving time, that is.
Today I packed up all my books. And now I want to read them. Now that they’re sealed up in Joe Muggs coffee boxes. Isn’t that always how it works? Maybe I’ll sneak out my Kay Ryan book or something. I need to read some poetry.
I hope my books smell like espresso when I unpack them.

After the Apocalypse, We Went to Starbucks.
It looked like the end of the world in Huntington last night. Trees down everywhere, police directing traffic at the intersection, neighbors venturing out looking like they didn’t know where they were.
We had just decided on what to do for dinner when our electricity flickered off and on for a few minutes before deciding it just couldn’t hold on any longer. There went any plans of...

Five Things on a Friday Afternoon
I’ve been doing an excellent job of neglecting you, Tumblr. So here’s a little list (in no particular order) of five good things from this week. Maybe it’ll make up for all the not-writing I’ve been doing. At least a little bit?
1. Polka dot dresses. From now on, if I’m ever having a bad day or in need of a self-esteem boost, I’m going to put on a polka dot...

Escape
I want to go on more adventures. Maybe this summer we will have more adventures. If we can afford them. It will be nice to not be broke and hopelessly job-hunting this year. Even if I have to wake up at 7 almost all the time.
I want to go to the zoo, which is happening after the wedding, I’m pretty sure. I want to go to King’s Island and the really awesome Japanese market I keep...
