Hi everyone! So the book came out last week and it’s been kind of a whirlwind since then, although I will say that I have achieved a life-dream, which is to utter the phrase “go look at pictures of baby otters” live on Fox News.

Sorry, not a meme. But this happened today while we were unloading our grocery truck. Needless to say, my team and I had a really good laugh about it. As did the LOD we showed it to.

I once pulled a Mitchell Musso CD with an “Only at Walmart!” sticker on it out of the music section at Books-A-Million.

So while browsing Goodreads, I noticed a genre called “New Adult.” I had never heard of this before, so I did some searching and learned that it is, in fact, kind of a new thing, label-wise. A specifically labeled genre for books about characters in between adolescence and adulthood.

Currently almost all the books tagged “New Adult” on Goodreads have covers that look like bad self-published covers. And they’re mostly pictures of half-undressed couples holding each other. Greeeeeaaat.

Well, it’s new. There’s still hope.

As a writer I think labeling the in-between genre sounds promising; authors who write stories with young protagonists won’t feel confined to high school aged characters. As a reader, I think it’s great that the publishing industry has noticed older readers’ love of the YA genre and wants to expand upon it. I just hope it’s not going to be “Young Adult Fiction with More Sex.” Which is what the Goodreads shelf looks like right now.
